Serial Device Driver

COMIML lets you read and control almost any serial device which connects to the PC's COM port and communicates over RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 or Modbus. These include such diverse equipment as electronic balances used in a laboratory, GPS receivers used in the field and data loggers used in process plant. The COMIML driver reads data from the COM port, and passes it to the Windmill logging, charting and DDE Panel programs. You can also use other Windows software, like Excel or Access, to display and analyse the data in real-time. COMIML is currently on special offer at our on-line shop, reduced to £50.

What sort of Instruments can you Read with COMIML?

COMIML can control both those serial devices that continuously output messages, and those that require commands before supplying data. With a flexible approach to building command strings, and parsing the received data strings to extract data values, the majority of analytical instruments are supported. These include altimeters, balances, conductivity meters, data loggers, dial guages, digital indicators, digital thermometers, DMR, extensometers, flaw detectors, fluorometers, force gauges, gas analysers, GPS, gyro compasses, hygrometers, I2C devices, ion gauges, load meters, motion sensors, multimeters, myographs, oxygen electrodes, particle analysers, pH meters, PIC microcontrollers, plcs, pressure transmitters, power analysers, RLC meters, RFID readers, thermoregulators, titrators, solar panel array controllers, sonar and water baths.

COMIML Specifications

• Works with instruments communicating over RS232, RS422, RS485 and Modbus
• Understands ASCII, binary and hexadecimal data
• For serial instruments that continually send data and those that need prompting
• Send ASCII values, 16-bit 2s complement integers, unsigned integers, hexadecimal bytes, signed bytes, single bits of data, floating point and reverse floating point data to instruments
• For Windows 7, Vista, XP, 98 and 95
• Data logging from ten instruments.
• Data acqusition speeds of 5 samples per second per channel
• Maximum speed of 200 samples per second. For example 40 channels of data being read every second.
• Each data item can be 20 characters long.
