In Windows 11 Microsoft imposes many restrictions on what it will let you install. The casualties include legitimate USB device drivers. To use many USB data acquisition devices you now need to disable Windows driver enforcement before installing your USB drivers.

1. Disable unsigned driver enforcement

This involves restarting your computer three times. Make sure then that you have closed any open programs before proceeding.

  1. Press and hold shift and then click restart on the power button menu. Your computer will restart.
  2. Select Troubleshoot from the options displayed
  3. Select Advanced Options
  4. Select Startup Settings and restart.
  5. You're asked to choose an option. Press 7 on your keyboard to disable driver signature enforcement. Your computer will again restart.
  6. Sign in as normal.

2. Install the USB Device Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Plug in the usb lead from the Microlink or other USB device. (If it appears as a USB device - unplug and plug back in again.)
  3. Under "Other Devices" you will see your USB data acquisition hardware. Select the Device and Update Driver.
  4. Browse for your driver in your Windmill folder, for example. Click Next.
  5. Windows should then be able to find the driver and the green light on the ML751 should be illuminated
  6. You are now ready to use your USB device.

When you next restart your PC, Windows' driver enforcement will be restored.
