Linearisation

Linearisation is needed when the signals produced by a sensor don't have a straight-line relationship with the physical measurement. For example when using thermocouples to measure temperature.

Linearisation is sometimes achieved using signal conditioning in the hardware itself. It compensates for nonlinearities in sensor outputs to ensure accurate measurement and data representation. Signal conditioning circuits may utilise amplifiers, filters or other analog components. Windmill data acquisition software, though, has built-in linearisation for many sensors such as different types of thermocouples so no prior signal conditioning is needed. Windmill presents and saves readings in the units of your choicee.
